What to Wear Wednesday – The Briar

Gossip Girl Style w/ Naya
Today is the launch of our new series – What to Wear Wednesday. Every other Wednesday, we will feature a fabulous and trendy outfit to wear with our eco-chic shoes. We will be creating the looks on our Polyvore page so you can always like our looks there as well as on Facebook (and of course, here). Today’s look features the Briar. The Briar is part of our Fall 2010 Tailored Temptation collection and features vintage, scalloped edging and distinctive pearlized piping. It comes in three rich, multi-combination colors: Lunar Taupe (accented with bordo and brown), Black and Inky Navy (accented with graphite and teal). Which happens to be an office favorite.

We decided to create an ultra-feminine look to pair with the Briar and found this perfectly stylish and comfortable navy dress from Phase Eight. We added a dainty pair of pearl earrings et voilà – instant femininity mirroring Blair Waldorf’s distinguished Gossip Girl style!

Spotted: Eco-friendly Celebs Trade Four Wheels for Two

Naomi Watts, Miley Cyrus and Gisele Bundchen all share one thing in common: Biking! It seems like everywhere you look, our favorite stars are opting toward bicycles as their central form of transportation. Here at Naya Shoes, we’ve identified a trend among celebrities that definitely has some staying power. Our favorite fashion-forward muses have been spotted with a new accessory that truly encompasses “eco-chic.”

Did you know? Biking to your destination not only reduces your carbon footprint, it also saves approximately $200 a year! For our environmentally-conscious, fashion-savvy readers, this is a must-have accessory to add to your Fall collection.

The Naya Artemis Featured in Yoga Magazine

The cover of Yoga Natural Living’s August issue is absolutely beautiful and reflective of the upcoming months. What is even better is the write-up about the Naya Artemis in the fashion spread on page 64!

It was a lovely write-up about our style and philanthropic efforts and I quote, “Eco-friendly, comfortable and undeniably stylish – you couldn’t ask for better shoes.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

If you have never read Yoga Natural Living then you should totally pick up a copy if you see it. It has great features on beauty, food, fashion, travel, green living, healthy lifestyle choices and of course, Yoga!

Eat, Pray, Love With Naya

Eat Pray Love Look: Italy

Fashion Trends & Styles - Polyvore

This past weekend some of the Naya gals had the chance to see Eat Pray Love with Julia Roberts and we’re inspired to create a look from the movie using our eco-chic “Artemis” shootie. We were thrilled to see how Elizabeth Gilbert (played by Roberts) was able to travel the world and renew herself like she did but it was a long and sometimes hard spiritual journey. One of our favorite quotes from the film (that employs Naya’s philosophy of renewal) was at the end when Liz completed her journey and said, “When you set out in the world to help yourself, you end up helping everybody.”

As you will see in the movie (if you haven’t seen it already), Liz claims a different style in each country she visits. While Liz was in Italy her style was very comfortable and fashionable at the same time (just like Naya!). While perusing the streets one afternoon she wore a belted denim dress, straw hat and tan shoes with turquoise accessories, which inspired our Eat Love Pray Naya look.

What was your favorite look from the movie? Put together your own look like we did using Polyvore and Naya shoes and share it below or on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/nayashoes.

Have a great week everybody and in the words of Ketut, “See you later Alligator!”

How Do You Naya? – Jasmin Malik Chua, Ecouterre

Sharing what renews our mind, body and spirit

Get Off-The-Grid

Jasmin Malik Chua, Managing Editor, Ecouterre

The problem with running an online fashion magazine is that the Internet never sleeps. Winding down at the end of a long day of toiling on the Web is a tall order when it’s all too easy to pull up your e-mail on your laptop, check site traffic on your smart phone or answer work-related text messages. Then add the responsibility of parenting a 20-month-old and relaxation becomes something I aspire to, rather than actually do.

On weekends, however, I unplug completely: no computer, no phone and no checking voicemail. My husband and I tag-team on putting our child through her daily paces, which frees up enough time for me to enjoy a steaming mug of green tea and flip through a good ol’ fashioned print magazine with nary a hyperlink, widget or pop-up ad.

Although the Internet is about freedom of information and being untethered to a fixed physical location, I feel the most unhampered when I’m off the grid and interacting with what’s tangible and present. Tending to my offline, IRL life, whether it’s pushing my daughter on a swing or knitting a physical garment on the couch is true bliss.

Another thing I find to be true bliss: the Narubi boot! I had a hard time choosing a favorite shoe style from Naya’s fall 2010 line, but I definitely fell in love with the Narubi.

Recycling 101

Thinking about starting a recycling routine at home, but don’t know where to begin? We’re here to help you start!

When talking about recycling, most people think of the big blue bins with the recycling symbol, right? We’re here to tell you there is no need to buy one of those! That’s just one more way to waste money and plastic. All you need to do is reuse your old cardboard boxes or any containers in your home that will hold the following: plastic, glass and paper.

Once you have your three containers, label them according to plastic, glass or paper. Use a dark marker to write directly on the containers, thereby eliminating unnecessary paper use. Then line the containers with eco-friendly plastic bags to eliminate any leaks from bottles or other food/drink containers.  Here are just a few of the many companies that carry eco-friendly bags, are biodegradable and made from recycled materials: EcoSafe, The Betty Mills Company, and Seventh Generation.

Once the bags are full, you’ll need to take them to your local recycling center. To locate a recycling center near you, visit www.earth911.com.

How to Clean Your Home the Green Way

Most people don’t enjoy cleaning, but it’s something we all have to do. Here’s a way to make you feel good about the cleaning you’re doing: use eco-friendly cleaning products! Avoid using products with harsh chemicals and give the following green cleaning product companies a whirl:

Green Works:  cleaning products available for glass, toilets, showers, hard surfaces, dishes and even laundry! All products contain ingredients that come from renewable resources, are biodegradable and free of petrochemicals.

Shaklee: offers a “Green Cleaning Starter Kit,” which includes all the cleaning products you can think of. Purchasing this kit helps reduce over 100 lbs. of packaging waste and eliminates 248 lbs. of greenhouse gases – the equivalent of planting 10 trees!

Seventh Generation: carries cleaning products for every task you can think of including disinfecting your home, taking care of your baby, doing the laundry or the dishes, and cleaning the bathroom and kitchen.

If you’re looking for other ways to green up your home cleaning process, here are a few tips:

1) Eliminate water waste by switching to powder laundry detergent. 80% of liquid detergent is just water.
2) Skip rinsing your dishes before placing in the dishwasher. This will save an average of 15 gallons per load.
3) Avoid antibacterial cleaners. The FDA found that these products do not disinfect better than soap and water and they have    harsh, unnecessary chemicals.
4) Use baking soda to elimate unwanted odors.
5) Skip buying air fresheners and boil cinnamon cloves instead. You’ll give your home a nice scent in a natural way.
6) Remember to leave your shoes at the door before walking in your home, thus eliminating tracking in unwanted toxins. Plus, that means less dirt in the home, which leads to less cleaning needed!
