For this week’s How Do You Naya, we have the pleasure of hearing from Candice Berneman Kahn. When Candice isn’t working on her blog Fashionably Organized, she stays eco-conscious by recycling and relaxes by getting creative with DIY projects. Learn more about Candice below!

1. How do you like to relax? (i.e. doing yoga, relaxing with a cup of tea, getting together with old friends, etc.)
I love to read books, and always have. That will forever be the thing that is an indulgence as well as a true love. Lately, my DIY projects have been so surprisingly relaxing. Going out to my DIY area and using my hands to create something great allows me to get lost in my own thoughts. When the project is complete, I get such a wonderful feeling of accomplishment!
2. How do you help soften your footprint on our earth?
We’re a big recycling family. My sons’ charter school is very eco-conscious and they collect recyclables to raise money for the school, so we collect in a separate container to bring to Monday drop-off. With every project that needs to get done around the house, the first “go-to” is seeing if we can reuse materials. If not, I turn to earth friendly supplies wherever I can feasibly afford it. We don’t use any plastic water bottles or plastic baggies to pack lunch/snacks. We have a drawer full of stainless steel water bottles, and the kids just grab those whenever they need water on the go. Then there’s the cabinet full of plastic BPA free containers in every size imaginable for food! Thankfully, the children have learned so much about how to reduce their footprint at school that they are aware of every little thing that helps. If only they could remember to turn the lights off when they leave a room!
3. Sleep is a huge part of renewing your mind body and soul. What is your routine before going to sleep each night? Any tips on how to sleep soundly?
Unfortunately, I don’t get as much sleep as I should. However, before bed every night I wash my face, and read a little bit. Reading is such a wonderful way to bring your mind out of overdrive and into relax mode.
4. What is your favorite drink to help you relax? (i.e. green tea, chamomile tea, wine, etc.)
I have a terrible addiction to Diet Dr. Pepper. That’s my go-to for everything. I’m trying to kick the habit, I promise.
6. Do you have a favorite song that helps you renew yourself?
I have several: “#41″ by Dave Matthews Band, “Precious Things” by Tori Amos and “Hello” by Beyonce to just name a few.
7. Do you participate in any outdoor activities that renew your mind, body or spirit?
I hate to admit that I don’t, other than my projects. My husband and I are thinking of buying the whole family bikes to start doing bike rides together. I hope we’ll be able to make that happen soon.
8. What is your favorite Naya shoe and why?
I do – the Eternal wedge in Green from the Spring 2012 collection. First and foremost, I cannot believe how comfortable they are. They are really super stylish, and the color is gorgeous! I get stopped and asked what shoes I’m wearing constantly! You’d be surprised how much the green can go with, too.
